About Landscape Connections Trust and the Halo Project
Landscape Connections Trust (LCT) is a charitable trust working with communities across North Ōtepoti, from Dunedin to Waikouaiti, to create healthy landscapes that support resilient communities. Our mission is to inspire and work with our community to enhance, protect and connect with this landscape. Through the Halo Project, LCT delivers two complementary landscape-scale programmes: Source to Sea, focused on habitat restoration and community conservation, and Predator Free Dunedin, focused on landscape-scale predator control.
Our Source to Sea programme takes a ki uta ki tai approach, connecting restoration from the mountains through waterways, wetlands and estuaries to the coast. The programme includes native planting and restoration maintenance, plant pest control, habitat restoration, and community conservation across an increasing number of sites.
Community participation is central to Source to Sea. Our field team works alongside volunteers, landowners and partner organisations to undertake practical conservation work while building local skills, knowledge and connection with the environment.
About the role
The Source to Sea Ranger is a practical, field-based role working alongside our Operations Field Lead and Community Field Lead to deliver ecological restoration across the Halo Project area.
You’ll be involved in native planting and maintenance, plant pest control, herbicide use, nursery activities and other practical conservation work, as well as working alongside volunteers and community members.
The level of responsibility will reflect the skills and experience of the successful applicant. There is scope for an experienced Ranger to take greater responsibility for field activities, while someone earlier in their conservation career will be supported to develop their skills and experience.
About you
We’re looking for someone practical, reliable and comfortable working outdoors who has experience in conservation, ecological restoration, horticulture, land management or similar practical work. You’ll enjoy working as part of a team, and alongside volunteers, mana whenua and community members, and have a strong commitment to safe working practices.
Experience in native planting, restoration maintenance and plant pest control would be an advantage, as would relevant practical qualifications such as GrowSafe, chainsaw, LUV and first aid. A full New Zealand driver’s licence is required.
